Mission

Our Mission is to provide students with free or low cost resources, consultations, referrals and educational venues that will assist them in achieving their optimum well being. A healthier lifestyle fosters better performance in academic and personal environment throughout college life and beyond.

Services

The Director / Registered Nurse has an extensive background in Emergency Medicine and offers health education and counseling to individuals and groups of students, staff and faculty. Free "walk-in" services are provided, including first aid, medical assessments and referrals, blood pressure checks, and vision tests. Informational session topics include birth control, pregnancy, safer sex, drug and alcohol use, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, cardio-vascular health, healthy eating, and health promotion.

The Health and Wellness Advisor provides support and referrals for alcohol and/or substance abuse problems as well as counseling on pregnancy, birth control and domestic violence. She is also a Nutrition Specialist who provides information on proper nutrition.

A wide variety of FREE health information is available including educational videos and tapes, pamphlets, and interactive computer software. Topics include alcohol and drugs, safer sex, HIV/AIDS, birth control, stress, cardiovascular health, nutrition, hypertension, and health promotion. Students can receive CLIQ points for viewing these programs at our office. No appointment is necessary!

We maintain an ongoing effort to ensure that all students meet the New York State Health Immunization Mandate Public Health Laws #2165 and #2167. All students born on or after January 1, 1957 must present proof of vaccination or immunity against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella as well as a meningitis response form indicating whether or not they have received a Meningitis vaccination. Free MMR and Flu clinics are offered.

New York City Department of Health Guidelines states that recent immigrants are those who have been in the U.S. less than 5 years or have been abroad more than 1 month. If you fall under these guidelines, Queens College requires proof of having had TB skin test in accordance with NYC Dept. of Health recommendations. Health Services will provide Free TB testing sites for those who need assistance in finding providers. Please submit TB test results along with your Immunization Form.
