THE CUNY/ITALY

EXCHANGE PROGRAM

 

   

            The CUNY/ITALY program is a student exchange between The City University of New York/CUNY and selected Italian Universities. The program is designed for highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in CUNY who are interested in pursuing course work and/or research in the areas of international business, economics, law, and political science. Students may also take courses in areas of anthropology, archeology, engineering, history, literature, and sociology.

 

 

OBJECTIVE OF EXCHANGE

This unique program aims to provide CUNY students with a focused core of knowledge and skills in their discipline while enabling them to experience life in another culture. In addition, students gain a global perspective that helps them to achieve career goals in an increasingly politically and economically interdependent world.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The program is open to students who are in good academic standing at their home campus, with a minimum a 2.75 GPA. Applicants must submit a statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation from a faculty member or academic advisor, an official transcript, and must have at least four semesters of Italian or the equivalent. This exchange requires of students a certain level of maturity, independence, seriousness of purpose, and an ability to adapt to new environmental and academic conditions.

 

HOW TO ENROLL

Students accepted to the exchange program will register at their home campus for 12 permit credits per semester. The CUNY/ITALY Exchange Program Selection Committee will designate the students to one of the participating Italian Universities.

 

TUITION PAYMENT

Students will be required to register and pay CUNY full time tuition to the Bursar at their home campus at least one month prior to departure. Upon completion of registration, students must bring a copy of the approved CUNY permit form and the bursar receipt, or a letter to the CUNY/ITALY Exchange Program Coordinator from the Bursar’s office stating the tuition will be covered by Financial Aid.

 

DATES

The academic calendar does not coincide with the CUNY calendar. The approximately dates for the Italian Universities academic calendar are:

Academic year: October to July            

Fall semester: September to December

Spring semester: February to July

 

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Academic Year and Fall semester: May 15th      

Spring semester: October 15th

Late Admission can only be considered on space available basis.

 

FINANCIAL AID

Students may apply for financial aid directly at their home campus. TAP and Pell grants, based on eligibility and Students Loans are available to students applying to CUNY/ITALY exchange program. Students should alert the financial aid office that they are participating in an exchange program; there is usually an advisor who deals specially with study abroad students.

 

 

HOUSING

The Italian University will help students find rooms with shared kitchen facilities at the university residences. Students will pay a housing fee directly to the host university one month prior to departure. The housing fee will vary for each university.

 

PRE-DEPARTURE ORIENTATION

Students will be required to attend an of orientation workshop one month prior to departure.

 

ESTIMATED ADDITIONAL COSTS:

Airfare:                           $  800 -1,200  (approx)

Housing:                          $  400 - 600   (approx)       

Meals:                             $  1,500         (approx)

Miscellaneous expenses:   $  1,700         (approx)

Independent travel not included
