The Economics Department offers majors in Economics that lead to a Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as majors in Finance, International Business, and Actuarial Studies for Business that lead to a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. Students may also earn a minor in Economics. Economics majors are taught economic theory, statistical methods, and analytical skills to evaluate the impact of economic policy. This helps them to develop tools that can be used for careers in business, public administration, finance, accounting, consulting, law, journalism, foreign service, politics, education, and even social work and medicine. Many of our graduates go on to earn their PhD in Economics or a Master¹s in Business Administration from outstanding graduate schools, while many others continue their studies at professional schools such as law, journalism, social work, public administration, and medicine. Training in economics also helps to prepare those who want to teach economics or social studies on a secondary level, or who wish to do economic research.

Students who plan to pursue careers in business should consider the BBA degree offered by the department. This selective program offers a rigorous education in specific quantitative and technological competencies as well as in communication, writing, and analytical skills, which are all crucial tools for success in business. Data analysis and spreadsheet modeling play a central role in our integrated curriculum. Teamwork and group projects are also critical ingredients that help ensure that students graduate with sufficient practice in effectively communicating their ideas. This rigorous program, pursued within the strong liberal arts education required of all
students at Queens College, gives our graduates the broader knowledge, the character, and the ethical understanding to make more informed decisions within our complex business environments and, indeed, to become true leaders in our global society.
