CUNY Collaborative Incentive Research Grants Program

The Program's Purpose and Philosophy

The purpose of the Collaborative Incentive Research Grants Program is to enhance, through multi-campus collaborations, the prestige and prominence of the University to a national and international audience. The program is administered by a review committee chaired by the University Dean for Research and faculty chosen from among the Executive Officers of the University's doctoral programs and Senior Faculty at the campuses. Since its inception in 1994, fourteen rounds of funding have taken place. The University encourages faculty to address problems that will lead to new and future areas of multi-campus research strengths. A major goal is to seed research that will become the basis of new external grant proposals.

To lay the groundwork for future grant submissions, the collaborative team must contact a program officer at a federal or state agency or foundation to discuss with that individual whether their proposed research would fit within the guidelines of the program.

Proposal Development and Structure

The program is open to research projects in the disciplines that constitute the traditional academic divisions of the physical sciences, biological sciences, mathematical sciences, social sciences, and the humanities. Investigators may wish to focus on a problem within a single discipline or collaborate with the intention of making a cross-disciplinary examination. The problem studied is to be defined in such a way that its potential of being subsequently supported by outside agencies is apparent. Faculty collaborators are to make inquiries at funding agencies as to whether the problem they plan to address has the potential for future funding.

All proposals should be structured so that they reflect the engagement of investigators from at least two campuses.

Submission Deadline - March 6, 2008

CUNY DEAN OF RESEARCH ANNOUNCES POSTDOCTORAL SUPPORT PROGRAM

The University Dean for Research, Gillian Small, is establishing a postdoctoral program to help postdocs make the transition from postdoctoral status to permanent teaching and research positions.  The University would like all departments to identify the postdoctoral fellows working at their institution.  The University will create a database and website for the postdocs to search for jobs opportunities and find out about internal funding opportunities and meetings.
